Progress Sports helped the Widnes Vikings Rugby League Club make it into the history books after joining 3,400 fans to break a world record. Sports tutor Carl Fairhurst took his group of students who operate out of the Widnes Upton Community Centre to join schools, families and thousands of locals to become the world’s biggest group to do a fitness DVD, smashing the previous 2,900 record set in China.

Set up by the Widnes Vikings who joined forces with NHS Halton Clinical Commissioning Group and Halton Borough Council the event was called ‘Wake Up Shake Up’ and was held yesterday morning, the day of their opening game against Wigan Warriors.

As part of the deal and for all to those who participated, Widnes Vikings gave free tickets away to their opening Super League game which ended in spectacular fashion as the score ended 22-22!

One of the Progress Sports students Jordan Byrnes commented “ It was a really good event and enjoyable day. We got to taking each others blood pressure levels and everyone had a great time getting involved. We also got free tickets to the game in the evening, it was my first rugby league game and it was amazing. I want to go to another game soon”.
